The power of hip-hop against racism

Waseem is an Egyptian-German politically and socially conscious artist and activist. He’s head MC of the international rap group DSDNG, a DJ of KREW and a Poet of i,Slam. He hosts hip hop events in Munich at the Milla Club, the intercultural and interfaith festival AusARTen and the YouTube channel Speaker’s Corner. He’s also a board member of the political party Die Urbane. Eine Hiphop Partei.

We made this mini-documentary for the Community Music Learning YouTube channel to highlight his community work in relation to politics and anti-racism.

As with most projects, we placed the emphasis on preparation and planning. Not only did we have very limited time in which to shoot around Waseem’s busy schedule, but we had to work around the strict German social distancing rules that were in place during the COVID pandemic.
