Trost von der Flöte (Comfort from the flute)

Gregor Schulenburg is a classically-trained flautist specialising in woodwind instruments and ceremonial performances.

We made this video to promote his work, not only showcasing his obvious skill as a musician but also his sensitivity and sincerity in client engagements.

Gregor used the video on his website and to promote his services on social media.

Modern AI transcription techniques helped me to translate the video, which not only sped up editing, but also quickly created subtitles in both German and English.

The video is a mini-documentary with a simple but non-linear narrative focused on Gregor’s musicianship, interspersed with an interview illustrating his warm personality and deep love for music. It was shot over two days at a church in the Bavarian countryside.

Like most of my projects, we placed the emphasis on preparing and planning the narrative, shoot plan and participant coaching. Time was of the essence, since we needed a whole day inside the church to allow for a sophisticated setup to capture high-fidelity audio. Then we had to shoot multiple takes of several performances. That left only one day to shoot the outdoor scenes, so I developed a detailed storyboard to ensure we got all the shots we needed.
